At Abergavenny.online, we believe accessibility should extend beyond the physical environment. It should also be reflected in the way people access and experience digital content.
That's why we're committed to creating a digital twin that is as inclusive as possible, allowing more people to discover Abergavenny with confidence before they arrive.
To achieve this, the town's digital twin incorporates a digitally accessible navigation plugin that has been designed to provide an experience comparable to the standard immersive tour, while conforming to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0).
Rather than creating a separate or reduced experience, the plugin makes the full digital twin accessible by presenting all of its features, including Mattertags, programmed points of interest, images and supporting media, in a format that can be accessed by a wider range of users and assistive technologies.
Creating a More Inclusive Experience
The accessible navigation system includes a range of features designed to improve the visitor experience, including:

Building the Accessibility Layer
Alongside the digitally accessible navigation system, we're also developing a dedicated Accessibility & Wayfinding Layer within the digital twin.
This layer will identify accessible facilities, highlight potential barriers and provide practical information to help visitors make informed decisions before and during their visit.
