A Vision Years in the Making

Inspired by Lived Experience

Following his own personal journey and lived experience of disability and accessibility challenges, Leighton recognised how much uncertainty can come with visiting unfamiliar places.

Questions such as:

  • Is the entrance accessible?

  • How far is parking from the venue?

  • What does the environment actually look and feel like?

  • Are facilities available nearby?

For many, these questions can create anxiety before a visit has even begun.

Abergavenny.online was created to help answer those questions before people arrive, giving visitors a clearer understanding of spaces and helping them feel more confident, prepared, and independent.

Because accessibility is not only about physical access.

It is about CONFIDENCE, REASSURANCE, and INCLUSION.

A Different Way to Showcase a Town

At the same time, the project set out to give Abergavenny something few towns anywhere in the UK currently have: a fully connected immersive digital experience that showcases the town in a modern, engaging, and meaningful way.

Using immersive digital twin technology, visitors can:

  • Walk through streets digitally

  • Step inside businesses and public spaces

  • Explore landmarks and hidden gems

  • Discover the town before they visit

This creates a unique blend of tourism, accessibility, heritage, and community storytelling all within one connected platform.

Showcasing a Beautiful Part of Wales

Nestled between the mountains and rich in history, culture, food, and independent spirit, Abergavenny has long been considered one of the most unique towns in Wales.

This project aims to capture that character authentically. Not through polished brochures or staged marketing, but through real environments and real experiences that allow people to connect with the town naturally.

It opens the doors of Abergavenny to:

  • Visitors planning a trip

  • People requiring accessibility information

  • Businesses wanting greater visibility

  • Former residents reconnecting with the town

  • Anyone curious to explore this beautiful part of Wales

More Than Technology

While immersive technology powers the platform, the true purpose behind Abergavenny.online is much bigger.

It is about:

  • Creating inclusion

  • Supporting local businesses

  • Preserving stories and spaces

  • Building confidence for visitors

  • Connecting communities through innovation

The project continues to grow with every new street, building, and story added to the platform.

And this is only the beginning.

Step Inside

Abergavenny.online invites you to explore the town in a completely different way.

To discover its streets, understand its spaces, and experience its character before you even arrive.

Because the best places are not simply visited. They are felt.

Street-level view of Abergavenny Town Centre, showing a wide, gently curving pedestrian-friendly shopping street lined with modern storefronts and historic buildings. Prominent retailers, including U-Xplore and Mountain Warehouse, display brightly lit window displays, while strings of decorative lights are suspended overhead. The scene appears as an interactive Matterport virtual tour, with navigation controls and location thumbnails visible along the bottom, inviting exploration of the town’s retail district.
